currently inked: week 3 of 2025
13/01/2025 – 19/01/2025
My series on weekly carry pens is making a comeback, hopefully to stay this time! A manageable 6 fountain pen rotation in a Galen Leather pen case to be carried around or set on my desk. One extra pen for my planner, and one extra pen to throw into my bag. 8 pens for a week should be enough, right? That gives two limits to this post: 8 pens to write about and 2 sentences each to explain them. Happy reading!
The new week brings 3 newly inked pens and 3 leftovers from last week in my pen case, I’ve yet to master the art of half-fills.
Kaweco AL Sport Paladin Evergreen -F- Taccia Sabimidori: The more I use this pen, the more I enjoy it, even though I was hesitant about the aluminium barrel. The nib’s feel is perfect in my hand, and one of the most gorgeous blue-green inks flow out of it, edged with a red sheen if the paper allows.
Sailor Pro Gear Wisteria -M- Kobe #57 Hime-ajisai (Hydangea): It’s nibs like these that make me love stock nibs a lot, full of character while still being approachable. The ink and pen’s colour complimenting just add to the enjoyment of this pair.
Pilot Prera -CM- Rohrer & Klingner Alt-Golgrun: The flow and the width of this nib allows the ink to pool and shade into a yellowy tone and I’m seriously obsessed with it. I’ve taken to using this pen posted lately, the little extra weight makes it easier on my hands when they are shaking after a long day.
Pilot Kakuno -F- Waterman Tender Purple: Despite Waterman being a brand that’s usually overlooked when it comes to ink, this vibrant purple quickly became one of my favourites. I keep coming back to Kakuno week after week, and the reason is three-fold: cute colour, comfortable shape, and one of the best steel nibs ever made.
Giants’ Pens Water Lilly Koi Blank -Bock F- Diamine Bloody Absinth: I’ve had terrible luck with Bock nibs, and my limited nib-tuning capabilities have made them barely comfortable. While the pen goes to the stack that I need to send off for tuning services, the ink with a good amount of sheen is absolutely necessary in the darkest days of the year.
Pelikan M200 Petrol -Pelikan M400 F- Diamine Twilight: This weird blue-grey-green ink was one of first inks when I started getting into fountain pens, in one of my first expensive pens, makes for a nostalgic pair. Once again, the steel nib on this M200 was never much enjoyed, so a quick swap made for a pen that gets more love.
Pilot Decimo -F- Pilot Black: The cartridge in this pen is almost finished and I’m tempted to ink it up with Pilot Blue next, as it’s nice to have a simple workhorse to come back to. It’s my planner pen after all, it’s not weird that I’m already planning what to ink next.
Kaweco Sport Burgundy -F- Kaweco Royal Blue: This pen spent a couple of days lost last week, apparently it fell out of the little pocket it usually resides in, and went right under a notebook. Kaweco Royal Blue starts to show some sheen when it’s getting dry, and the time’s coming for this pen’s resting as well.
The list is written in last year’s Hobonichi Techo.
